Disclaimer: The Glaucoma Service
Foundation and the Glaucoma Service at Wills Eye Institute have
made every effort to provide accurate, up-to-date information.
This information and the responses provided through this service
are not intended to replace diagnosis, consultation, or treatment
by a health-care professional, such as an ophthalmologist. The
question and answer service is intended for educational purposes
only. The responses represent the approach of the responding physician
given the facts presented, not necessarily the only or best treatment.
By using the information from this Website, the viewer willingly
assumes all risks in connection with such use. Neither the author,
the Foundation, nor the Institute shall be held responsible for
errors or omissions in information herein nor liable for any special,
consequential, or exemplary damages resulting, in whole or in
part, from any viewer's use or reliance upon this material.
Unfortunately, the medicolegal milieu in America
prevents us from offering specific advice about individual cases.
Unless you are from Pennsylvania, such advice would constitute
practicing medicine without a license in your state and is a punishable
offense. In a specialty such as ophthalmology where the examination
is many times more important than the history, the potential for
mistakes in accurately assessing the situation is also too great
to hazard advice about specific problems. This Website is offered
as an educational service to help glaucoma patients become better
informed about their disease so that they can participate to a
greater degree in the decisions regarding their eye care.
Chat Privacy Statement: The
chat room is always open and accessible to the public. It is there
for glaucoma patients and family members to share their experiences.
If you are under the age of 18, a parent or guardian must be with
you at all times during the chat session. Neither the Foundation
nor the Institute shall be held responsible for any information
exchanged in the chat room.
Participants in the Glaucoma Chat Support Group
should understand that anyone with access to this site can view
user IDs, profiles, and all entries in the chat room. We cannot
control statements or information posted in chat rooms by others.
We do, however, filter obscenities.
Every user takes full responsibility for any
and all statements entered during the chat. Please use accepted
standards of chat etiquette to avoid being banned from this chat
room. Remember that any information disclosed in these areas becomes
public information. You should exercise caution when disclosing
personal information. Transcripts of chats are recorded and used
to create chat highlights, which are posted on this web site.
Your IP (Internet Provider) address is recorded to help diagnose
problems with our chat server and to administer our Website.
Chat Room Practices: To save
time on Wednesday nights, the Moderator welcomes the doctor and
greets late arrivals. Please wait until discussion of the topic
ends before asking questions or making comments that are not related
to the topic. Failure to do so may result in your being asked
to leave the room.
When the doctor is in the Doctor's Suite during
Wednesday night chats, please use the private message feature
to greet friends and chat with them. (Do not send private messages
to the doctor.) Your cooperation will help to ensure the best
use of the doctor's time.
